Interdisciplinary Marxism
The Interdisciplinary Marxism Group (IMG), based in the Research Centre for the Study of Democratic Cultures and Politics (DemCP), University of Groningen, brings together scholars from across the disciplines (including history, philosophy, American Studies, politics, European languages and cultures, media studies, literary studies, and arts sociology) to study and produce interdisciplinary scholarship on and in the historical materialist tradition, with a particular focus on up-to-the minute, twenty-first century approaches to questions including the role of ideology and culture in capitalist society and the different ways of envisioning transition to a post-capitalist society in an era of climate breakdown.
Inaugurated in September 2021, our group has hosted a series of inter-related research activities, from post-capitalist reading groups and international book launches to research presentations by visiting scholars and a graduate student workshop on Cultures of Socialism in the 21st Century United States, co-funded by ICOG, the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis (NICA), and the Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA).
Details of further events will be announced via the DemCP website. Please contact t.jelfs rug.nl for more information.
