Master Ambassador History Today
Lieke Wouda

My name is Lieke Wouda. I am 26 years old and living in the beautiful city of Groningen. I play hockey at GHBS and I work at the UG’s University Museum. After earning my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Utrecht, I promptly decided that I wanted to further my education. The History Today master’s programme was an ideal choice, as it contains information that I did not receive during my bachelor. Namely the answer to one question: what can I do with all of my historical knowledge and skills I have obtained?

Methodology courses

This practical aspect is mainly reflected in the programme’s methodology courses. I currently attend two methodological seminars that deal with public history. The seminars focus on converting academic knowledge into understandable and accessible information for the general public. In the History Online lecture, we examine how modern developments in the digital age can offer new platforms for presenting historical knowledge. Here you can study digital projects in museums, as well as teaching materials for schools and websites that make historical knowledge accessible in an innovative way.

The programme is ambitious and asks a lot from its students. You are expected to spend a lot of time preparing for courses, but not so much that you lose your creativity. The hands-on mentality makes the programme unique and interesting for students who want to develop their knowledge in the field. If this resonates with you, I strongly recommend this Masters!
