Classical Studies (Classics)

Classics has a long history at this university: its very first Rector, Ubbo Emmius, was a professor of History and Greek (1614). Nowadays the department of Greek and Latin in Groningen is home to an active group of researchers of international reputation, who study ancient literature in its social and cultural contexts. We offer bachelor and master degrees in Classics which reflect this focus on an integrated approach to the classical languages.
