Leonardo da Vinci, artist and ecologist

Mini-lecture

Did you know that Leonardo was the first person to criticize the western exploration of the New World? He lamented the way in which the Spanish disturbed the relationship of the indigenous people with nature. He understood the colonization of the Aztecs and Maya’s as a form of oppression. Leonardo’s criticism of human culture throws an entirely new light on his understanding of art, the product too of human making instead of nature. In this mini-lecture, you will learn everything about Leonardo’s exceptional position in Western culture.
