In the field of teaching and research, the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences aims to invest in top-quality expertise, and respect differences in talent and ambition. Therefore, the Faculty is aiming to attract and keep excellent academics who will be expected to develop personally and attain key positions in research and teaching. To this end, the Faculty Board introduced a tenure track system in 2007. Within this system, a staff member can start at the level of Assistant Professor (UD) and over a nominal period of twelve years advance to become Professor. Promotion criteria have been devised for the various phases of the tenure track system which must be satisfied before promotion occurs. New scientific personnel (of the levels UD and higher) is virtually always appointed according to the tenure track system. Existing personnel with a permanent appointment can enter the tenure track system on a voluntary basis.
