From idea to promotion
Ph.D. students can be connected to the University of Groningen in various ways. An external Ph.D. student carries out doctoral research without being employed by or having a training place at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. Still, after having worked in a professional context for years, you may have developed an idea for an interesting research project. Or perhaps you recently graduated on a fascinating research project; but you cannot give research as much attention in your current job, as you would like. At the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences it is possible to develop a research proposal into a Ph.D. research project.
The Faculty of BSS actively supports external Ph.D. students. External Ph.D. students can apply to the Faculty for registration and supervision (see also the link ‘starting the process’ on the left). In addition, support is also possible in the context of facilities, courses, a workplace in an academic environment (PPC) and, possibly, some limited material (financial) support. See: facilities.
After registration, you will get a personnel number, and then it will be possible to make use of the arrangements for facilities.
