FEB researcher Susanne Täuber has been appointed a member of the Young Academy Groningen. The Young Academy Groningen is a club for the University’s most talented, enthusiastic and ambitious young researchers. Members are from all fields and disciplines who have a passion for science and an interest in matters concerning science policy, interdisciplinarity, diversity and internationalization, outreach, leadership, and career development in academia. Täuber will officially be installed in a ceremony on 18 September.

Täuber: ‘The YAG encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and advocates a stronger connection between academia and society, which strongly resonates with my personal vision on science and society. I also appreciate the YAG’s aim to contribute to science policy and talent development and advise the University on these topics. In essence, being a YAG member allows me to put my knowledge and experience in academia to good use for early career researchers, policymakers, and universities in their role as employers.’

Main benefits

‘I am very much looking forward to learning from and collaborating with my fellow YAG members. So far, my theoretical ideas and insights from research have benefitted immensely from working with colleagues across different fields. Apart from stimulating academic discussions with excellent scientists, I hope that being a YAG member will also help me to achieve a livelier exchange between academia and society in the long run.’

Interdisciplinary learning communities

‘I would like to develop interdisciplinary learning communities that span the boundaries between faculties in order to address societal challenges. Experiencing different ways of thinking about a problem, diverse approaches to problem solution, and various levels of analyses would benefit both students and researchers. Linking such learning communities to stronger connections between academia and society, for instance by involving practitioners, might produce innovative solutions for societal challenges that are particularly relevant to the Northern Netherlands.’
