Appointment of Bert Schoonbeek as professor of endowed chair of Applied Game Theory
Bert Schoonbeek has been appointed professor of Applied Game Theory at the Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance of the Economics & Business Faculty. The endowed chair is set up by the Groningen University Fund of the Economics & Business Faculty.
Schoonbeek is a specialist in the fields of Game Theory, Industrial Organization and Contest Theory. He has published a series of articles in international economic journals.
Game theory is aimed at understanding strategic interaction between parties when they take rational decisions. The theory provides tools to model such situations mathematically and to analyse these subsequently . Game theory plays an important role in solving economic issues.
Game theory is also an important part of the FEB curriculum . Schoonbeek now teaches the subject in the Bachelor programme Econometrics and Operations Research and in the Master programme Economics.
Curriculum vitae
Bert Schoonbeek (Groningen, 1957) graduated cum laude in Econometrics from Groningen and was awarded his PhD cum laude in 1989. Up to his appointment as Professor, Schoonbeek was university lecturer in mathematical economics and senior university lecturer in micro- economics, successively. He is programme director of the BSc in Economics & Business Economics.
