Measurement and control applications - devices

Preface
The RPO MR-T course will usually be given separately, but a combination with the RPO MT course for medical applications is offered occasionally.
Final objectives
The training meets the final objectives for the Radiation Protection Officer for measurement and control applications with devices and accelerators, as meant in Annex 5.2, Section I.1 of the Regulation on Basic Safety Standards Radiation Protection.
Target group
The course provides the required training for Radiation Protection Officer for measurement and control applications either with devices and accelerators (RPO MR-T) and overlaps to a large extent with the former Level 5A training.
This course is also suitable as an appropriate instruction for those who work with devices and accelerators.
Learning objectives
After successful completion, the RPO MR-T has the following skills:
- He supervises the application for which he is responsible, he enforces the relevant laws and regulations in the field of ionizing radiation, and he gives advice to the employees.
- He contributes to an adequate handling of an unintended event or incident.
- He actively improves his own expertise through further training, and that of others for whom he is responsible by providing information and instructions.
- He possesses knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences relating to measurement and control applications.
Course load
The course load for this program strongly depends on your prior education and ranges roughly from 40 to 100 hours including hours of study.
Course material
The course material is contained in the book Health physics for radiation protection officers - measurement and control applications - devices and accelerators by Frits Pleiter, Hielke Freerk Boersma and Age Froma. The material is completed with a practical training manual edited by Arjo Bunskoeke.
Examination
At the end of the course, there will be an exam consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions with each four possible answers, and one or more open questions. The multiple-choice questions are rewarded with a maximum of 40 points. For the open questions one may obtain a maximum of 10 points. The exam is passed if 30 out of the 50 available points have been obtained. You must bring a simple calculator to the exam.
