Electrical resistance (R) of a material is the measure of its opposition to the flow of electric current (I). The corresponding unit is ohm (Ω). For many, but not all, materials is the potential (V) proportional to the current (I). This is known as Ohm's law:

potential (V) = current (I) × resistance (R)
