Engaging effectively with employees

Useful tools for managing psychosocial problems

As a manager, you might sometimes have to deal with difficult situations. What should you do when an employee is having personal problems, or struggling to cope with change? Are some employees experiencing a lot of (work-related) stress? What should you do if employees start dating each other? How can you protect vulnerable employees (e.g., informal carers)? How do you deal with cultural differences that cause problems in your team?

During this short half-day training course, you will learn how to have effective conversations with your employees about psychosocial problems.

The objective of this training session is to provide you, as a manager, with the tools you need to recognize psychosocial problems and to engage with your employees. This contributes to good working relationships.

This is a practical training session that deals with a whole host of real-world cases. You will have the opportunity to practise these situations with a training actor. You will also experience the different approaches and potential effects yourself.

After the training session, you will

  • have improved your conversation skills
  • know how to ask the right questions
  • be a better listener
  • be able to maintain the structure of and lead a conversation
  • know who you can contact for advice on psychosocial problems
