Equipping: Professional development of lecturers

The Equipping unit uses and is further developing the EQUiiP programme and its materials with the aim to stimulate discussions and sharing among lecturers and educational developers about inclusive teaching in diverse classrooms. These modules are organised in an interactive workshop format in which participants are invited to bring and share their teaching and learning practices.

This series of workshops consists of five modules in which you will look at course materials and design from different perspectives. The various themes are (1) Introduction to Inclusive Teaching in Diverse Classrooms; (2) Inclusive Internationalised Course Design; (3) Intercultural Group Dynamics; (4) Role of Language; and (5) Inclusive Assessment .

The content of the sessions are aligned and based on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) EQUiiP programme. By attending at least three sessions, you are able to obtain a digital certificate as a Proof of Competence.

How can you participate in the EQUiiP programme:

Open Enrollment - Equipping: Inclusive Teaching in diverse classrooms

The modules are organised in an interactive workshop format in which participants are invited to bring and share their teaching practices across disciplines.  You can take one or more of the EQUiiP modules in any order (they will be offered once each semester). The target audience for these sessions are teachers and educational developers interested in building on their (teaching) practices towards inclusion and diversity.

(Cancelled) Module 'Introduction to inclusive teaching in diverse classrooms': 9 September 2025, 09:00 - 12:00

In this module, you will discuss general concepts on inclusion and diversity as well as familiarise yourself with general principles for inclusive teaching in diverse classrooms.  The aim of the module is to create a shared understanding on general terminology and define individual agency in order to effectively improve teaching and learning practices. For more information on the module content, please watch this short video and/or read the thematic text.

Module 'Inclusive Internationalised Course Design': 22 September 2025, 09:00 - 12:00

In this module, you will interactively explore manners to internationalise and diversify the design of the course you are teaching by sharing ideas of inclusive learning, pedagogical approaches and assessment practices. The aim of this module is to discuss constructive alignment opportunities of intercultural and global competences, teaching and learning activities and assessment that are relevant for your students and their employability.  For more information on the module content, please watch this short video and/or read the thematic text.

Module 'Dynamics in Group Work': 17 October 2025, 09:00 - 12:00

In this module, you will explore dimensions of diversity and inclusion with a specific focus on forming groups and facilitating (intercultural) group work. The aim of this module is to discuss questions such as how to facilitate group dynamics in order to promote meaningful interaction and purposeful collaboration among diverse students. For more information on the module content, please watch this short video and/or read the thematic text.

Module 'The Role of Language in the Classroom': 11 November 2025, 09:00 - 12:00

In this module, you will reflect on the role of language diversity in the multilingual/diverse classroom and discuss teaching strategies that support learning in such an environment. The aim of this module is to consider the impact of classroom language (Dutch, English, etc.) when taking into account the diversity of students’ and teachers’ first languages and backgrounds, as well as see how we can use this multilingualism in the classroom as a resource. For more information on the module content, please watch this short video and/or read the thematic text.

Module 'Inclusive Assessment': 15 December 2025, 09:00 -12:00

In this module, you will discuss some ideas about how we can ensure that all students have the possibility to demonstrate their achievements in the scope of the intended learning outcomes and provide evidence of their learning progress. Although it is not possible to meet each student’s needs, there are possible adaptations we can make that will benefit a broader group of students and contribute to an inclusive learning environment. This is a new module complementing the other 4 Equipping modules.
