Cyan Centre on Climate Change Adaptation (C4A)

Purpose

The Cyan Centre on Climate Change Adapation (short C4A) is a research centre in the fashion of the Data Research Center, the Centre for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and the Centre for the Internationalisation of Education. It functions as a focal point for research and outreach initiatives alongside the flagships and deepens specifically but not exclusively the research flagship of Governance. The focus of the centre is the interdisciplinary research of climate adaptation (economic, political, environmental, technological, societal etc.). The centre is a vehicle for funding acquisition and to engage with local stakeholders (Blue Delta Coalition, municipality, province, WETSUS, Dairy Valley etc.) as well as national and international stakeholders (e.g. Global Centre on Adaptation). Furthermore, the Cyan Centre is the direct link to the upcoming UG School of Climate Adaptation and Energy Transition as laid out by the new strategic plan of the University of Groningen.

Management

The centre is headed by Prof. Andrej Zwitter as academic director. The academic director oversees all initiatives and has the final responsibility for all projects and outreach activities. The centre is further open to all staff members of Campus Fryslân as ordinary members, to all staff members of the RUG upon invitation as associate members and to externals upon invitation as honorary or guest researchers.

The Cyan Centre will host a board of commitment that will consist of regional, national and international stakeholders.

Initial Projects

The first project that is currently being launched is a project funded by the Afsluitdijk (Province) on Climate Adaptation Initiatives in the North of the Netherlands.

Furthermore, the Innovation Platform Fryslân is responsible for the province’s initiative on funding acquisition from EU budgets for designing research proposals in the domain of climate adaptation with regional engagement.
