Dual-Career Support for partners of new academic staff

Recruiting first-rate staff is an important priority for the University of Groningen. In Groningen, we believe that exceptional teaching and research depend on a diverse academic community with a broad range of talents and nationalities. The University of Groningen is a great place for teaching and research and a great place to work. Academic freedom, integrity, openness and inclusiveness are important core values.

We acknowledge that talented prospective staff often have talented spouses or partners who also wish to further their Careers. The University of Groningen offers DualCareer Support in order to assist partners or spouses of new academic staff in building up a new social network and in seeking employment, an internship, voluntary work or further study opportunities. We organize regular (monthly) meetings meetings in which you can meet other partners and share experiences. These meetings can help you building up your professional and personal networks in order to pursue your personal goals.

Please note that Dual Career support does not offer guaranteed results. Chances of finding a job depend on individual characteristics and the local job market. For most of the non-academic positions at the the University of Groningen, the ability to speak Dutch fluently is a requirement. The local labour market in general assumes applicants to speak Dutch. For non-academic positions at the University of Groningen, fluency in Dutch is also often required. So we advice you t o learn Dutch as soon as possible.

You are eligible for Dual-Career Support if your spouse or partner belongs to the academic staff, you are considering relocating to Groningen around the date of his/her first appointment or have done so in the past two years, and you are seeking employment for the first time in the Groningen area or the Netherlands.  If you moved to Groningen more than two years ago and you have a good reason for not having made a request or application previously, but would like to participate in Dual-Career Support, please contact the Dual-Career Support secretariat on or at +31 50 363 5313.
