Clean Tech Playground De Ceuvel
De Ceuvel is an unique place in Amsterdam North. For more than 100 years ships were built at the Johan van Hasselt canal, where De Ceuvel is located. The shipyard, which carried the name 'The widow Jeltje Ceuvel', was the last major vest of shipbuilding in the industrial old Northern part of the city. A little more than 10 years ago a bridge was built over this canal and the passage for ships was blocked. This eventually led to redevelopment of the area with as a result Clean Tech Playground De Ceuvel. A vibrant community of sustainable entrepreneurs and artists with a green heart, who have built their own workplace at Amsterdam's first circular breeding ground. Here you can find a cultural stage, café-restaurant, bed & breakfast, creative workshops, and innovative techniques for closing cycles.
During the lecture, the history of the project and the vision behind it will be discussed in detail, both from a social and technological perspective. In addition, some essential sustainability issues, both on a global and local scale, will be addressed and linked to De Ceuvel. In the second part of the lecture we will discuss the lessons learned and will make a connection with how you can implement these in your own life. We will also look towards the future in terms of urban developments.
