The first carillonneur was Auke de Boer (Drachten, 1954), who was appointed on the installation of the Academy Carillon in 1996.
Auke de Boer has given concerts at home and abroad, including the USA and Japan (Huis ten Bosch in Nagasaki). For Huis ten Bosch he created arrangements for their automatic carillons. In 1993 he won a prize at the International Carillon Competition in Venlo.
He and Adolph Rots, the city of Groningen carillonneur, together form the Groningen Carillon Duo. They have given concerts in France, Belgium, Denmark and the USA.
