This project crosses over between cultural geography, and arts and humanities. The project involves collaboration with Groningen artist Lambert Rozema, and Marguerite Perret at Washburn University. Art-based research is introduce into the curriculum focusing on ‘Geographies of colour’, specifically the role of colour in experiencing (urban) landscapes. Conceptually, this addresses identity, heritage, health and affect. Students will , for example, collect observational data through sketching and photography, and in the context of walking interviews in urban neighbourhoods. Inspired by van Maanen’s De kleur van de stad, students analyse urban colour schemes and explore symbolic values, heritage, identity and health.
