Dorina Buda (Spatial Sciences)
How can I inspire my students to enjoy learning? How can I make my own research more useful, interesting, and more compelling to students and our society alike? Research-driven education is the answer as it keeps such excellent students motivated, alert and interested in my subject: tourism studies. I draw on my own research to encourage students’ critical thinking and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.
The Teaching Excellence fellowship funds will be used to:
1) Set-up an interactive webpage for the Honours College Passions of Tourism course. This will be a shared space for students, lecturers and researchers, as well as the wider society to co-create and disseminate knowledge via online medium. This webpage will be integrated on the website for my research project Tourism and Emotions subsidised through my NWO VENI grant.2) Produce A) short documentary video and B) travel brochure, both about students’ experiences in Jordan and critical reflections on ‘travel as education’. The video and travel brochure will be produced by the students as part of the Atelier component of the HC PoT course. Along with producing them, students will also draft a business plan to commercialise these products. Proceedings will be donated to a non-governmental organisation for refugees in Jordan.
