Killian McCarthy (Economics and Business)
My ‘innovations’ were twofold. Firstly, I was the first at the RUG to make use of digital testing. Since then, I have been working on giving all exam feedback digitally, and on hosting the exam review online. Secondly, I organised course such that my lectures deal with the theory, while the tutorials are student-led, and student-run, and are aimed at giving the students the space to discuss the usefulness of the theory. I requested funding to help me to connect my teaching to the local market: rather than solving hypothetical cases, relating to US or multinational firms, I thought it would be interesting to connect my teaching to real-world companies, in Groningen. Doing so would simultaneously help to demonstrate the usefulness of the theory, help those same companies, and would help to expose our students to internship and job opportunities in the North.
