Elisabetta Pallante (Science and Engineering)

The project ScienceTalks is for Bachelor students who want to taste the surprises and challenges of scientific research as early as possible. After a first phase involving a limited group of FSE Honours College students, the project will eventually be enlarged. ScienceTalks uses a traditionally particle-physics example, CERN and its multifaceted activities, as tool to learn and explore scientific methods and strategies for the management of science. Why CERN? In addition to its most famous particle physics LHC experiment (e.g., the discovery of the Higgs boson), CERN hosts a rich spectrum of activities at the frontiers of today’s knowledge, from computing science to proton therapy to new engineering technologies. It has unique managing aspects and a considerable spin-off and collaboration with industry. ScienceTalks consists of topical lectures on CERN-related science by international and local experts, hands-on sessions with actual data analysis, and the creation of pedagogical tools at University locations.
