At the UMCG microscopy & imaging center we develop elective courses to apply microscopy in life sciences. The courses provide insight in the latest developments and include hands-on use of state-of-the-art microscopes. In addition, we developed a web-based learning module, named “nanotomy” that guides students through gigabyte datasets with questions related to structure/ function of tissue, cells, organelles and molecules in the context of Type 1 diabetes. This web-based learning is enthusiastically received by students, and is now also used at other universities, the fellow will further built on www.nanotomy.org to include other tissues and increase the web-based interactivity.
