Why am I a candidate?
I am associate professor in Bacterial Cell Biology at FSE, where I started in the tenure track in 2010. I did my Ph.D. at the UG, but between my Ph.D. and my start in the tenure track I have worked for 10 years at 3 different universities (in UK, NL and Portugal), which has taught me how other universities find (sometimes) different solutions for similar problems. I have 4 years of experience in 'participatory councils', first as member of the FSE faculty council, then in the University council.
Why should you vote for me?
I am a member of the PF - a large faction with broad representation throughout UG. Within the faction I work (with others) on items related to governance and finance, and I also maintain some of the press contacts. Points on which I focus are curbing excessive bureaucracy, to allow employees to focus on the best research and education possible, and the allocation of money to areas that need it the most - to relieve work pressure within UG. Over the past two years, I have focused on the decision process regarding the branch campus Yantai, as a member of the committee that evaluated the proposals. On the basis of the work of this committee the University Council concluded that the plans lacked sufficient justification and support within the community. I have also been strongly involved in the proposed reorganization of KVI-CART, where the University Council has ensured that the reorganization will not lead to forced lay-offs.
