Building Smart Factories with the University of Groningen

One year after the kick off, the new Region of Smart Factories Northern Netherlands (RoSF) initiative is already paying off for the University of Groningen.These RoSF results have been presented at the Hannover Messe, last April. Prof. Sibrand Poppema, President of the University Board and Annemieke Galema, Director Research & Valorisation office, UG, attended the meeting in Germany.

There is more to biomarkers

Kick started in 2015, customers from the Health & Life Sciences sector worldwide, including Singapore and Spain, have already taken the opportunity to do business with BiomarkerBay. BiomarkerBay is a service concept that brings together academic expertise (UMCG, RUG) and five contract research organizations to provide integrated services for the validation, bioanalysis and clinical testing of novel biomarkers and companion diagnostics. Biomarkers are measurable indicators of the severity or presence of some disease.

Due to the continuous emergence of bacterial resistance and reduced anti-biotic approval the society is running out of treatment options against bacterial infections. ‘Soon bacterial infections will be the number one cause of death,’ says Dr. Andreas A. Bastian, CEO and co-founder of the Zernike Campus Groningen based pharmaceutical company AGILeBiotics.
