Dr C.E. Evink (1966) is university lecturer in the History of Philosophy department, where he teaches philosophy of art and phenomenology, among other subjects. He studied History and Philosophy in Groningen, Amsterdam and Louvain, and gained his PhD at the University of Tilburg in 2002. Evink was awarded the title of Faculty Lecturer of the Year in 2008.
Evink is able to fill students with enthusiasm and has an exceptional talent to get them thinking independently. His tutorials stimulate critical thought and analysis. Evink challenges his students to reflect, analyse, react and discuss, activities in which he makes use of his own research, thus reducing the distance between education provision and study. Students become so inquisitive that many of them are eager to enlist him as their graduation mentor. Evink is regarded as a keen and devoted teacher, which means that he spends a lot of time on the efficient supervision of his students. His door is always open. His lectures are systematic and provide a classic example of lucid, structured, interesting and well-organized education, with a clear study guide, PowerPoint presentations, handouts and suchlike. His modes of instruction are transparent: preparatory questions appear on the Student Portal, for example, so that students know what they can expect and can prime themselves adequately. They are also very satisfied with his prompt response to written assignments and with his reasoned feedback.
