Kleingeld, prof. dr. Pauline
Pauline Kleingeld is hoogleraar Ethiek en haar geschiedenis. Ze is internationaal vermaard vanwege haar werk op het gebied van de filosofie van Immanuel Kant, de hedendaagse Kantiaanse ethiek en het wijsgerig kosmopolitisme en haar geschiedenis. Ze publiceerde over thema’s als de vrijheid van de wil, de rol van emoties, en het kosmopolitisme in heden en verleden. Kleingeld weet een belangrijke brug te slaan tussen ontwikkelingen in de gedragswetenschappen en de ethiek. Momenteel houdt zij zich bezig met de betekenis van empirisch psychologisch onderzoek voor de ethiek en met de vraag naar de fundering van morele plichten. Daarnaast richt zij zich op onderzoeksgebieden als: praktische rationaliteit, politieke filosofie, inclusief feministische theorie.
Pauline Kleingeld was eerder hoogleraar in Leiden en heeft gewerkt aan Washington University te St. Louis. Ze leidde diverse NWO-programma’s (Morality beyond illusions: Re-assessing the philosophical implications of empirical studies of moral agency ; Kant on morality and empirical knowledge of moral agency; The moral relevance of weakness of will: A dispositional account) en publiceerde in toonaangevende tijdschriften, zoals Philosophy and Public Affairs, Philosophical Quarterly, European Journal of Philosophy, Kant-Studien, en Journal of the History of Philosophy. Bij Cambridge University Press publiceerde ze Kant and Cosmopolitanism: The Philosophical Ideal of World Citizenship. In 2015 is Kleingeld benoemd tot lid van de KNAW. In 2022 werd ze gekozen tot corresponding fellow van de British Academy en tot lid van de Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschafte.
In 2018 ontving ze een grote NWO-subsidie voor onderzoek naar universele morele normen. In 2020 ontving Kleingeld de Spinozapremie, een van de twee hoogste Nederlandse wetenschappelijke onderscheidingen. Kleingeld krijgt 2,5 miljoen euro, te besteden aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek.
