Hydrogen research
On this page you will find an overview of the Faculties and Research Groups with a research field in Hydrogen.

Hydrogen Lab and Atmospheric measurement station at ESRIG
The ESRIG instituut focuses on three research themes: Energy Systems; Which contains research subjects like new energy technologies, biomimetics, evolving energy systems, environmental impact, and societal acceptance. Bio-based economy and “circular resource” systems; Involving new energy technologies, geothermal energy, sustainability of innovative biotechnology, food systems and resource usage, waste management, and multi-level governance in natural resource management and Carbon cycle and climate; Car bon capture and storage (CCS) and other negative emission technologies, combustion, atmospheric carbon dynamics, marine carbon cycle, climate and its impact on the carbon cycle, as well as the economics and societal impacts of negative emission technologies

Research on Economics of Hydrogen at CEnBER
CEnBER is increasingly involved in the research in various economic factors that affect the economic potential of hydrogen. The director, prof. Machiel Mulder, received various grants for research into the economic feasibility of the large-scale production of hydrogen using electricity and into the development of a hydrogen market. Furthermore, the centre is also closely involved in doing practical research together with external parties. This creates that the centre is now active in multiple research projects with various researchers.
Training for a Hydrogen Economy based Renewable Energy Society in the Anthropocene (THERESA)
European doctoral network on hydrogen regulation
Funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the THERESA project will establish a doctoral research programme focused on the systematic legal analysis of hydrogen economy. PhD candidates will receive training in regulatory intervention on hydrogen, which is a complex and growing field of regulation characterised by a highly fragmented legal framework. As an emerging economy, it presents risks, uncertainties and legal and academic challenges that need to be addressed. In this regard, THERESA has a triple focus: reduce sectoral fragmentation, promote the sustainable use of hydrogen and stimulate social engagement to the hydrogen economy. In order to achieve the objectives of the project, a methodology based on doctrinal and comparative analysis as well as empirical legal research will be used.
