About us University College Groningen

Welcome Counsellors!

A warm welcome to University College Groningen!

Our Liberal Arts and Sciences programme offers students the flexibility to explore a wide range of subjects or specialise in Humanities, Sciences, or Social Sciences. With a focus on interdisciplinary learning, students work in diverse teams to tackle real-world challenges, developing the creative problem-solving skills needed to address complex global issues.

As one of the smaller University Colleges in the Netherlands, UCG fosters a close-knit, supportive community, where over 60% of the students come from international backgrounds. This inclusive environment ensures that students form strong connections while receiving a world-class education that prepares them for global success.

We look forward to connecting with you! Follow us on LinkedIn & Instagram or register for the counsellor newsletter .

Are your students eligible?

We admit 150 students into our Liberal Arts and Sciences programme. Our holistic process considers not only academic achievements but also students' motivations and personal experiences. We assess who they are, what they've done, and their future goals, providing a unique opportunity for students with diverse talents and ambitions.

To be eligible, students must hold a secondary school diploma that qualifies them for academic university entry. We accept a wide range of qualifications, including A-levels, IB diploma, the German Abitur, and the US high school diploma (with SATs or APs).

Our admissions process

UCG offers two start dates each year: 1 September and 1 February. Applications begin through Studielink, the Dutch national platform, with non-Dutch students continuing via Progress, our online system. Once the application fee is paid, students submit key documents and a motivation video, which plays a crucial role in our admissions decision.

Dutch students with a VWO diploma or HBO-propedeuse can submit an Admission Request, following the same process. This allows us to assess each applicant individually, considering their academic achievements alongside their personal qualities and drive.

After UCG

After three years at UCG, students earn a Bachelor of Arts or Science from the University of Groningen. Most graduates - 88% - pursue a master’s degree, many at top universities like Trinity College Dublin or Cambridge, while 13% follow a PhD path. Some graduates enter the job market straight away or start their own businesses, but the majority continue their studies in prestigious programmes in the Netherlands and abroad.

Whether pursuing further education or starting their careers, UCG graduates thrive globally, equipped with the skills to succeed and make an impact.
