UCG alumna contributes to paper in the Oncology field
A recent paper written by UCG Senior Lecturer Dr. Roland Chiu and a group of other researchers from the University of Groningen features work from the bachelor thesis of UCG alumna Merethe Blandhol.

The paper was published in one of the most renowned journals in the field: Clinical and Translational Radiation Oncology.
This is an international, open access journal which encompasses all aspects of clinical and translational radiation oncology research.
The approach
The team developed a novel approach to overcome the challenge of identifying and potentially avoiding brain damage induced by radiation therapy for brain cancer.
This included work from Merethe's bachelor thesis entitled Long-term neurocognitive outcomes in post-radiotherapy low-grade glioma patients in which she was supervised by Dr. Hiske van der Weide (radiation oncologist at the UMCG).
Dr. van der Weide is co-author of the paper and has also been teaching the course 'Oncology' for third-year UCG students.
