Shared course offer at other universities

University teaching staff can develop professionally through a national offering compiled by Dutch universities united in the Professional Development Exchange Hub. From Rotterdam to Maastricht, Amsterdam to Groningen, there are face-to-face meetings, online courses, webinars and hybrid events at various locations and dates. The institutions make it possible for teachers to choose from a rich, varied offer that suits their own development and interests, without being tied to a fixed location.

Eligibility criteria for staff to participate:

  • You are employed and have formal teaching duties at one of the participating universities (Open Universiteit, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Maastricht University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Universiteit Leiden, Tilburg University en Technische Universiteit Delft en Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Wageningen University & Research).
  • In most cases, it is of added value if you have already obtained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO).
  • Certain activities offered are only available in Dutch or English. To participate in these, you require sufficient proficiency in the language offered.

Evaluation

Have you taken part in a course, workshop or webinar from another participating university? Then we’d love to hear what you thought! We like to hear your opinion afterwards. At the end of the offer, you will receive an evaluation link from us.

The opportunities available during the second half of 2025 are available below and will be updated frequently. For more information, you can contact Marlies Venhuizen-ter Beek.

Showcasing AI in practice: Episode I

Showcasing AI in practice: Episode I

Maastricht University

In this session, we’re delighted to welcome Dave Cass, Head of Leadership and Instructional Design from the Maastricht School of Management, who will talk to us about worldbuilding with AI. Drawing on real teaching experiments, Dave will show how to use narrative design and generative tools to turn passive learners into active participants. From leadership dilemmas to clinical training, AI-powered storytelling can transform your classroom into an immersive world where students think, decide and care.

Connie Drosinou from University College Venlo will share how she designs assignments that both embrace and move beyond generative AI: inviting students to critically evaluate AI-produced output while also creating AI-free tasks that give students the space to express their own ideas, creativity and personality.

Designing education with innovative technology (ICT)

How to integrate virtual exchange into your course

How to integrate virtual exchange into your course

Erasmus University Rotterdam

Would you like to enable students in your course to collaborate with peers from another country and learn from different cultures and perspectives? This can be achieved without physical mobility through Virtual Exchange (VE). In VE, students work together online on course-related tasks. They develop not only subject-specific knowledge, but also skills such as collaboration, digital communication, and intercultural understanding. VE offers all students access to an international learning experience, regardless of mobility constraints. In addition, it enriches course content by introducing alternative perspectives, for example on healthcare systems, behavioural issues, or mental health.

In this MicroLab, you will work on integrating VE into your own course. You will explore didactical approaches, design a first outline, and exchange experiences with colleagues. This MicroLab was developed in collaboration with UNIC, a European university alliance.

Five dimensions of quality for educational videos

What do we mean when we talk about quality? Five dimensions of quality for educational videos

Open Universiteit

In this workshop, we will dive into the world of educational videos together and explore what really makes these videos of high quality. We start by exploring participants' views on what defines a good educational video. Using examples, we identify criteria of quality.

We then introduce a theoretical framework in which these criteria are conveniently grouped into five dimensions. The participants use this to do further assessment of their own videos using a checklist that includes these five dimensions.

During the joint discussion of the videos, the presenters will add an extra layer to the theoretical framework which may answer the question why people sometimes judge the same product very differently in terms of quality.

We will conclude the workshop with provocative questions that you will take home with you, so that afterwards you can reflect further on how to continue improving the quality of educational videos.

We are going to talk about physical posture, tone of voice, focus, tension in communication and all from behind your desk, at home. We will address questions that teachers have as a result of their experiences making educational videos.

The Inclusive Teacher: e-learning for teachers

The Inclusive Teacher: e-learning for teachers

University of Groningen

The Inclusive Teacher e-learning course offers a range of tools and tips to make student diversity a valuable asset, leading to more effective teaching and greater student success. Most teachers already do a lot to promote inclusion. However, sometimes it is unclear how you can add to your skills set, or why certain teaching strategies could benefit (groups of) learners. As this course shows, inclusive teaching is often about making small, practical adjustments that lead to sustainable improvement. Topics include inclusive course design, pedagogy, group work, and assessment.

The e-learning is both accessible and interactive and offers a choice of activities. Through discussion boards, you can share best practices with other course participants. Each course unit takes 2-3 hours to complete. If you do the Introduction and at least one other unit, you can get a Certificate of Participation. If you do all units and a reflective assignment at the end, you can gain a Proof of Competence
