Teaching Essentials: Public Speaking for University Teachers
Confident and effective public speaking can be one of the most necessary skills for university instructors. And though just the thought of speaking in public can cause quite a lot of stress, the skill of speaking is often overlooked when thinking about your own professional development. To help you develop these skills more broadly but especially for the university classroom, join this course to practice your public speaking in a safe group of colleagues from around the university. Use this programme as a starting point to making your moments of public speaking more effective, less stressful, and more enjoyable.
There isn’t a specific outcome ‘by the end of the course’ but in the four sessions you will practice (and receive feedback) on your non-verbal and verbal communication. We will use tips, tricks, and methods from theatre, speaking-clubs, and teacher education though all will be made practical for the university teacher. If you join, be ready to have fun, practice seriously, and understand that we will all be a little uncomfortable!
