ECR lunches

Throughout the academic year, we hold bi-monthly Early Career Research Lunches where early career researchers and all other university staff interested in the topics are welcome to join for a free lunch and discuss various career-related topics together with a peer network who are in a similar career stage.

Keep track of our upcoming ECR lunch events this website and our ECR mailinglist (you can sign up below).

Upcoming lunches are also announced via the University newsletters, our social media channels and on the screens at the faculties.

Upcoming ECR lunches 2026

YAG ECR lunch: Gender & Academic Careers – how are we doing at UG, and where to go from here?

When: 29 April, 12 – 1:30 pm

Where: Bruinszaal, Academy Building (ground floor)

Nearly 30% of professors is a woman, marking an important milestone for Dutch academia (LNVH, 2025). However, although the number is rising, the Netherlands still ranks low among EU countries, and with 51 % female students and 46 % female PhD’s, parity is not expected before 2043. What is the situation at the University of Groningen, and what do these numbers mean for ECR’s in practice?

During this YAG ECR lunch, the results of a survey on gender disparities experienced among UG staff is presented. We will use the remainder of the time to discuss the particular situation of ECR’s, to collect practices in reaching parity across faculties, and to gather input on waysto improve.

Speakers:

Esther Metting, Assistant Professor UMCG – author of the Gender Disparity @UG Report

Participation is free and registration not necessary. However, for the catering we need to know how many people we can expect.  You can sign up here: https://forms.gle/dbPiLdcsEdrmzNDbA
