Research Biomolecular X-ray Crystallography Group

Biomolecular X-ray Crystallography Group

The Biomolecular X-ray crystallography group, headed by Assistant Prof. Albert Guskov, is embedded in the GBB Institute and together with the Electron Microscopy group headed by Assistant Prof. Cristina Paulino constitutes the Structural Biology unit of GBB.

The main research interest of the group is unraveling the complex fluxes of divalent and trivalent cations across the biological membrane as well as amino acid transport. In their research, the group uses the combination of macromolecular X-ray crystallography and single particle cryo-electron microscopy as well as various biochemical and biophysical techniques. Additionally, the group has an interest in macromolecular crystallization and serial crystallography techniques.
