Tamalika Banerjee Featured on In Science Podcast

Tamalika Banerjee, a CogniGron researcher and Professor of Physics and Spintronics, spoke with hosts Wim Brons and Hanne van Loo about her path from superconductors in India to pioneering spintronic research in the Netherlands. Her work bridges deep physics and tangible technology, with a special focus on integrating magnetic materials with silicon — traditionally seen as incompatible.

The conversation highlighted how her team at CogniGron has developed neuromorphic devices with analogue behaviour and variable memory time scales, mimicking key features of the human brain. These devices form the scientific foundation of her academic startup, IMChip, which aims to build radically efficient, low-latency chips by co-locating memory and processing — addressing some of the fundamental bottlenecks in today’s silicon-based architectures.

IMChip doesn’t seek to replace silicon, but to complement it. The goal? Chips that enable artificial intelligence to evolve in a sustainable, responsible direction.
