Scientific integrity

The Faculty of Law adheres to the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (2018) of the Association of universities in the Netherlands (VSNU). Important values within this Code are honesty, scrupulousness, transparency, independence and responsibility. The Code has established duties of care for research.

The UG also has its own Regulations for the protection of Academic Integrity, describing which actions must be taken when academic norms are violated. Researchers can discuss presumptions of violation of academic integrity, but also questions and doubts, with the especially appointed confidential advisors in the faculty. The advisors of the Faculty of Law are: Prof. Dr A.R. Mackor for all employees and Prof. Dr P.C. Westerman for the PhD students.

The Research Ethics Review Committee (CETOR) is responsible for the ethical review of research. This includes Research Data Management and the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Co-authorship Guideline

The increasing amount of joint publications can lead to questions and ambiguities and sometimes to problematic cooperation and conflicts. Such situations may involve improper behaviour or naivety. The risk is greatest if the collaboration concerns a dependency relationship, e.g. in the case of PhD students.

The Co-authorship Guideline comprises six rules which, as far as possible, are consistent with the rules and best practices that have been drawn up by other Faculties and journal editors who have a lot of experience with joint publications. For each formulated guideline, a best practice, an explanation and a real-life example is provided.
