Dr María Lorena Flórez Rojas launches final stage of interactive game
Assistant professor of Technology Law María Lorena Flórez Rojas (course coordinator), led the final session of the interactive learning game ‘You Are Hired!’ together with PhD candidate Anna Helena Marquez. The grand finale took place at Microsoft Netherlands.
Zero Trust Architecture
As part of the LL.M. in Technology Law & Innovation, students take part in a Masterclass that concludes with a hands-on legal-tech challenge. This year, the theme was ‘Zero Trust Architecture’: a modern way to strengthen the security of digital systems. Students explored how this approach fits with fast-evolving privacy and cybersecurity regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European DORA rules on digital resilience, and the NIS2 directive on network and information security.
Practical assignments based on realistic scenarios
In the final assignment, students stepped into the role of compliance advisors for two realistic case studies:
-
A European private bank implementing Zero Trust to secure sensitive financial data and mitigate operational risks.
 -
A public hospital authority modernizing its IT infrastructure to safeguard patient data and ensure GDPR-compliant cybersecurity practices.

Under tight timelines, students were tasked with writing a legal strategy report, mapping internal policies to the right legal requirements, and responding live at a boardroom level to ‘plot twists’ in the scenario. During the session, they explored topics such as:
-
Data minimization and secure architecture design under the GDPR
 -
Role-based access control, multi-factor authentication, and insider risk mitigation
 -
Legal implications of employee monitoring
 -
Sector-specific compliance considerations

According to Dr. Flórez Rojas, the session was a powerful conclusion to a semester marked by creativity, collaboration, and reflection: ‘Each challenge is not only an opportunity for students to grow, but also for me, as a teacher, to reimagine how law can be taught. ‘You Are Hired!’ continues to evolve thanks to the students’ energy, feedback, and commitment. Teaching is my passion, and I’m deeply proud of what we’ve built together. Stay tuned, new versions of the game are on the way!”
This challenge closes the 2024–2025 edition of You Are Hired!, but its lessons will echo far beyond the classroom.
