Advanced European Union Law

Programme requirements

In order to obtain an LLM degree in Advanced European Union Law a candidate must successfully complete a total of 60 ECTS:
a.   Five compulsory courses:
-     Advanced Competition Law and Market Regulation (6 ECTS)
-     Advanced Topics in EU Institutional and Constitutional Law (6 ECTS)
-     EU External Relations Law (6 ECTS)
-     European Environmental Law (6 ECTS)
-     Regulating the Internal Market (6 ECTS)
b. The Seminar: Researching Current Challenges to the European Union (6 ECTS)
c. Choose one of two: - Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (6 ECTS)
- European Human Rights Law (6 ECTS)
d. A Law in Practice module (6 ECTS)
e. Master’s thesis (12 ECTS)

Programme structure

The programme consists of six courses (minimum), a seminar, a Law in Practice module and the writing of a Master’s thesis. The programme requires one year, full-time to complete.

Exchange period in the first semester (Fall term), as exchange student:
- Advanced Competition Law and Market Regulation (6 ECTS)
- Advanced Topics in EU Institutional and Constitutional Law (6 ECTS)
- EU External Relations Law (6 ECTS)
- Regulating the Internal Market (6 ECTS)
- Seminar: Researching Current Challenges to the European Union (6 ECTS)

LLM completion in the second semester as registered regular LLM student (Winter/Spring term), after graduation at home university:
- European Environmental Law (6 ECTS)
- Choose 1 of 2: - Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (6 ECTS)
- European Human Rights Law (6 ECTS)
- Law in Practice (6 ECTS)
- Master’s thesis (12 ECTS)
