Brief course description:
This course looks at EU Trade law in the light of the EU’s external relations law and policy. After discussing the development of the EU’s competence in external relations and trade, the course looks at the interaction between political aspects of external relations and trade aspects, and then considers the various trade defence measures open to the EU (such as anti-dumping, anti-subsidies, safeguard measures) and the Trade Barriers Regulation. It will also consider proposed Multilateral Investment Treaties, such as TTIP and look at the EU's neighbourhood policy from the point of view of trade agreements.
Teaching method: This course is taught in a class, combining lectures and interactive analysis. Students are expected to have prepared for the classes and to respond to the questions and problems raised.
Assessment: Written examination (essay questions).
