During the visit, organised jointly with Dr. Antenor. Hallo de Wolf, the students attended the Grand Chamber hearing in the case of Molla Sali v. Greece. The case concerns the application by the Greek courts of Islamic religious (Sharia) law to a dispute concerning inheritance rights over the estate of the late husband of the applicant, a Greek national belonging to the country’s Muslim minority.

The hearing was followed by a meeting with the Vice-President of the ECHR, Judge Linos-Alexander Sicilianos. Professor Sicilianos, elected judge to the ECHR with respect to Greece, took office in 2011 and is Vice-President of the Court since May 2017. During the meeting with the students, Vice-President Sicilianos provided all with further insight into the functioning of the ECHR and was happy to answer various questions from students.

The students and staff who visited the ECHR are thankful to Vice-President Sicilianos, as well as to the ECHR staff, for making the visit possible.
