The programme consists of:


10 EC foundational courses (2 out of 3)
Guide your master's with your choice of two foundational courses.
  • Political psychology: How psychological processes influence political beliefs, conflicts and collective actions and/or
  • Culture and Diversity: How culture influences our emotions, norms and behaviour - and how misunderstandings and conflicts can arise precisely because we are psychologically similar but express it differently and/or
  • Cooperation and communication: How people negotiate, influence each other, exercise power or achieve goals together.
10 EC skills courses (1 out of 2)
  • Personal and societal change: How individual behaviour and social trends influence each other - from micro change to collective transformation and
  • Designing interventions: How to design concrete behavioural interventions for societal challenges such as health, sustainable habits or group behaviour.
5 EC method courses (1 out of 3)
  • Advanced research methods: In-depth understanding of how social psychological concepts are translated into concrete research - from theoretical question to measurable outcome.
  • Repeated measures: Techniques for repeated measures (such as ANOVA, MANOVA, profile analyses) are essential in longitudinal and experimental research or
  • Test construction: The theory and practice of test development: from classical test theory to item response theory, including norming and validation
10 EC electives
You can choose electives from foundation courses or methods courses from any track within the master’s Psychology, or, when approved by the exam committee, from other master's programmes.

20 EC master's thesis
You conduct your own research project and write your master’s thesis.

With a clear grasp of social psychology and strong applied research skills, ASP graduates are equipped not just to understand society, but to help change it.

With a master’s diploma in Applied Social Psychology, you are well-prepared to contribute to a wide range of societal domains, from public policy and social innovation to communication and behavioural research. With an in-depth understanding of how human behaviour works — and how it can be changed — you will be valued for your ability to tackle complex challenges such as polarisation, inequality, sustainability, or integration.


The master's also provides a strong foundation for an academic career. Many graduates go on to pursue a PhD, often within the Behavioural and Social Sciences faculty or at other top institutions across Europe.

Research

Both the master's programme and the research group focus on understanding and influencing social behaviour through theoretically informed and applied research on conflict, communication, diversity, and societal challenges.

Thesis topic

As an ASP master’s student, your thesis can explore real-world social issues - like conflict, diversity, or collective action - by investigating the cognitive and emotional roots of how individuals and groups interact, bridging theory and practice to make a meaningful societal impact.
