How to apply as an incoming exchange student?

After being nominated by your home university, you will receive a link to our online application form by e-mail together with an overview of available courses, learning agreement and Welcome to Groningen Guide. Students applying for the period September - February will be provided with the link to the online application at the end of April. Students applying for the period February - June will receive the link at the end of September.

Please do NOT follow the application procedure meant for regular degree students via Studielink/ OAS!

The following documents are required to be handed in with your online application:

  1. Confirmation of English language proficiency (non-native speakers only)
    Minimum level: B2 according to CEFR

    Accepted test certificates:
    TOEFL internet-based: overall score of 80
    TOEFL paper-based: overall score of 550
    IELTS: overall score of of 6.0
    Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): overall score of 169

    Alternative proof of English language proficiency (e.g. an equivalent test certificate, a confirmation from your home university or proof that you are following an English-taught degree programme) can be accepted on a case-by-case basis, only after consultation (e-mail to! Exception: Students applying via International Credit Mobility or SHARE-ASEAN are required to provide one of the test certificates mentioned above!
  2. Certified transcript of records (overview of all your study results, sealed and signed) in English
  3. Copy of your passport or European ID card
  • Within 2 weeks after the deadline (June 1st/ November 1st) you will receive an acceptance letter.
  • In case you need a visa or a residence permit, the Immigration Service Desk (ISD) will contact you and provide you with all the necessary information to apply for it.
  • Your Learning Agreement will be returned (signed) to confirm the courses you have chosen. We will enroll you for the courses listed on your Learning Agreement. Please do not try to enroll yourself, we will take care of the whole enrollment process.
  • You will receive information about housing, study start events and more practical matters via email.

You will be able to select your courses as of June 2018. More information will follow!
