Gerard van den Berg appointed to Board of Governors Tilburg University

Professor Gerard van den Berg has been appointed to the Board of Governors of Tilburg University as of October 1, 2023. Van den Berg is a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UG and at the Groningen University Medical Center (UMCG). The Board of Governors of Tilburg University monitors the objectives of the university and functions as its supervisory council.
As member of the Board of Governors, Professor Van den Berg will chair the Research, Education, and Impact Committee. The other members of the Board of Governors are Hugo Reumkens LLM (chair), Jos van Lange MSc, Manon Leijten MSc, and Professor Evangelia Demerouti.
Van den Berg's research concerns labor markets and the relationship between the economy and health. Van den Berg studied econometrics and philosophy at the UG and obtained a doctorate (with honors) at Tilburg University in 1990. From 1996 to 2009, he was a professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). He has also lived and worked in Germany, the UK, Sweden, and the USA. In 2009, he was the first economist and social scientist ever to be awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Professorship Prize. Van den Berg has been a member of the KNAW since 2010, he has authored contributions to leading journals in economics, econometrics, and epidemiology, and was Joint Managing Editor of The Economic Journal.
