Huib Cense appointed as distinguished chair professor of Health System Innovation

The Faculty of Economics and Business is pleased to announce that Huib Cense MD, PhD has been appointed as distinguished chair professor of Health System Innovation.
As a professor in Health System Innovation, Cense will work for both the Operations department of FEB and the UMCG. He will contribute to the scientific and policy debate on the realization of a sustainable health system in The Netherlands and specifically in the Northern Netherlands. This applies to the region-wide policy level as well as to the individual organizational level. Also, the exploration of (blended) digital health technology as part of the sustainable health care system is recognized as a significant part of Cense’s assignment.
Cense is a surgeon in the Rode kruis Ziekenhuis Beverwijk and NoordWest Ziekenhuisgroep in Alkmaar and Den Helder, and head of the training program for residents and medical manager of the surgery department of the Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis (Beverwijk). In addition, he is a member of the board of DICA (Dutch Institute for Clinical Auditing) and the Dutch representative for the UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists).
As Vice President of the Dutch Association of Medical Specialists (Federatie Medisch Specialisten) Cense was chairman of the writing group for the vision document ‘Medical Specialist 2025’. He has also been involved in the health programmes of the UGBS. With these experiences, Cense can make a significant contribution to education about and research on health care management and innovation.
The chair in Health System Innovation is established by the C.R. Rao Foundation.
