Taco van der Vaart appointed President of the European Operations Management Association

UG Professor Taco van der Vaart has been appointed President of the European Operations Management Association, an international network of academics and practitioners who have a shared interest in the further development of the discipline. The network serves as a valuable bridge between research and practice.
‘I am genuinely moved that people who matter within the EurOMA community have asked me to consider my candidature for the office of President. That is an indication of trust’, says Van der Vaart, Professor of Supply Chain Management. ‘It is also a wonderful confirmation of the position of our department and all FEB researchers in the field of Operations Management and Supply Chain Management in Europe. I genuinely hope that it will help us to increase our visibility and deepen our connections with good researchers and research institutes.’
Young researchers
‘The main reason to stand for election and run for President of EurOMA is to contribute further to the strategic development of our Association. The recent survey clearly showed the importance of the annual conference for our members. The attractiveness and quality of our conference is key for the future of EurOMA. At the same time, the growing attendance poses challenges to the Association in terms of finding suitable locations, the increased complexity of the logistics, the format of the conference and of the sessions, and maintaining the scientific quality of the sessions. Another area where I see opportunities to contribute, also based on my experience as Director of Graduate Studies within our school, is an educational programme for young researchers with a focus on research methodology and research methods.’
