Information for transfer students with a Dutch academic Bachelor's or Pre-Master's

This information is relevant for students who:

  • Need to do a Pre-Master'sto get access to a MSc at FEB
  • Want to do Pre-Master's courses during their BSc
  • (Partially) completed a similar Pre-Master's programme at another Dutch Research University

Starting a Pre-Master's after your first BSc

If you have a BSc from a Dutch research university and want to transfer to one of FEB’s MSc programmes, please read the following carefully and take the steps as described.

Step 1.

Some Dutch academic BSc programmes give direct access to one or more of our MSc programmes. Please check the entry requirements at the webpage of the MSc of your choice. There you can find the general requirements for Dutch diploma students and a table with transfer options. If this table does indicates that you have direct access, just apply for the MSc of your choice before the deadline. If you do not have direct access, or you are in doubt, go to step 2.

Step 2.

Most transfer students will have to take extra courses to remove any deficiencies in their educational background, i.e. a Pre-Master. Please check the following:

  • Is there a customized entry package for your situation? If so, please apply for the pre-master in Studielink and send a mail to premsc.feb rug.nl. If your customized entry package has different options, also send your chosen set of courses (name and course code).
  • Do you want to gain entry to the MSc Economics or MSc EORAS? Apply for the MSc first, you will receive a Pre-Master's offer. Please note: offers for EOARAS are only granted to students with specific backgrounds, see the transfer table on each MSc programme page as described in step 1).

Is there no customized entry package for you and you do not want to get access to MSc Economics or MSc EORAS? Then go to Ocasys and check the courses that are in the Pre-Master's programme that belongs to the MSc of your choice. Does your Pre-Master's have a 30 EC and 45 EC variant? Check the 45 EC variant for overlap with your earlier academic studies. Apply for the Pre-Master's in Studielink and send a mail to premsc.feb@rug.nl with the subject: ‘Application mail with Dutch BSc yourname’ and include the following information:

  • Your name and University of Groningen student number (if available).
  • Your present BSc (programme and institution) and your current transcripts
  • Pre-Master's courses that you think overlap with earlier courses that your took. Explain the overlap and attach official documents such as course descriptions or course manuals.
  • Official grade list(s) of other courses at BSc level (e.g. other BSc programmes or academic Pre-Master's programmes that you took).

Step 3.

The Admissions Board will look at the information provided and give you a Pre-Master's offer.

Starting with your Pre-MSc during your BSc

Especially for students of the University of Groningen, it can be an interesting option to take the Pre-Master's courses before graduating from their BSc. This can be within your minor but also as extra courses. Before you enroll for any courses, you first have to know what Pre-Master's courses you need. Take the following steps:

A.     Go through steps 1 to 2 above, but do not apply on Studielink. If you want to get access to the MSc Economics or EORAS, please mail us at premsc.feb@rug.nl.

B.     Go to step 3, do not apply on Studielink, and send the mail as described above, adding the following extra information: Your general planning; When do you want to take these courses? Do you want to take them during your minor? Or do you want to spread them out alongside your present BSc?

C.     The Admissions Board will look at the information provided and give you a deficiency offer (this is not a formal Pre-MSc offer since you will not become a FEB Pre-Master's student). Please note, if you enrol for FEB courses without sending us a mail and receiving an offer, you may be refused for courses that are full or restricted to FEB students. Informing us on time is your own responsibility.

Getting access to a MSc with a pre-master programme from another university

Did you (partly) finish a Pre-Msc Programme at another Dutch university that overlaps with the Pre-MSc you would have to do at FEB? Please mail premsc.feb rug.nl. Provide detailed information about your background and your plans.

Nota Bene:

  • Dutch HBO diploma’s never give direct access to a MSc, only if you completed our ‘Opstap’ or ‘Bridge’ Minor.
  • Processing your requests takes time, so send it in early and before the summer holidays.
