Education PhD programmes About the Groningen Graduate Schools

PhD surveys

Every second year, an extensive survey is held among all PhD students of the University of Groningen, assessing their motivation, satisfaction and training environment. This series of surveys has started in 2009 and it has reached its seventh edition in 2021. The results of the surveys are available below.

  • Pilot national PhD survey 2021
In 2021, as a pilot, eight Dutch universities (including the UG) included a series of national questions in their own PhD survey. This will provide national insight into experiences, and satisfaction, with various aspects of the PhD trajectory such as education, supervision, facilities and workload.
The UNL webpage promovendisurvey lists the most important results (in Dutch).
In 2023, all 14 Dutch universities will take the set of national evaluation questions.

Wellbeing survey

In 2018 a survey was conducted for the first time with the specific aim of assessing the wellbeing of PhD students. In 2020, the second edition followed. The reports of these Wellbeing Surveys can be found below.

Supervisor survey

In 2018, for the first time a survey was conducted among supervisors of PhD students. The results can be found below.
