Academic year 2022-2023: exemption existing entry requirements (soft cut)

In the current academic year, students at the University of Groningen and other educational institutions once again had to deal with corona measures, as a result of which education was still partly provided online and study delays as a result of the measures could occur. Normally, it is only possible to start your master's degree after you have graduated for your bachelor's degree. Due to the corona crisis, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has again decided that this entry requirement may be relaxed by universities.

For this reason, the Executive Board of the University of Groningen has decided to maintain the so-called 'Soft Cut' again for the coming academic year (2022-2023). This means that from 1 September 2022, students in the final phase of their Bachelor's degree programme or pre-master's programme may under condition start their Master's degree programme if the Bachelor's degree programme or pre-master has not yet been completed, so that they can already take master's courses and reduce the study delay as much as possible.

Of course, there are certain conditions to these measures. These can differ per faculty of programme. You may only start if you have met the specific conditions of your faculty.

Have you already been conditionally admitted on the basis of the Soft Cut scheme in the 2020-2021 or 2021-2022 academic year? Then you cannot be re-admitted via the Soft Cut before the 2022-2023 academic year. This applies to the further education for which you were conditionally admitted in 2020-2021 or 2021-2022, as well as to any new further education. In that case, you must meet the admission requirements before the start of the follow-up programme(s).

If you think you are eligible, please contact the education support desk of your faculty. The admissions committee then determines whether or not you meet the requirements.
