Education Master's Nederlandse studenten Aanmelding en inschrijving

Registration procedure for a Master's degree programme

You can enrol in a Master's degree programme at the University of Groningen via Studielink.

Admission requirements

You will only be able to start a Master's degree programme if you have gained your Bachelor's degree. In addition, there may be additional admission requirements.

Academic year 2021-2022: exemption existing entry requirements

The Bachelor’s-before-Master’s rule (‘harde knip’ in Dutch) is the legal provision that states that students must first complete their Bachelor’s or Pre-Master’s programme before they can move on to a Master’s programme. In light of ongoing government measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, many students were not able to study as effectively as they would under normal circumstances. The switch to online teaching and examinations and the different approaches per faculty justify easing the rules for access to the Master’s degree programmes, thus allowing a deviation from the harde knip rule.

The Board of the University of Groningen has decided to maintain the so-called Soft Cut for the academic year 2021-2022. This means that students in the final phase of their bachelors programme may, under certain conditions, get started with their masters programme and limit further delay.

Conditions

Of course, there are certain conditions to these measures. These can differ per faculty of programme. You may only start if you have met the specific conditions of your faculty.

Please note that if you have already been conditionally admitted based on the Soft Cut in the academic year 2020-2021, then you cannot make use of it again in the coming academic year. In that case, you need to finish your bachelor degree before you can start your masters programme

If you think you are eligible, please contact the education support desk of your faculty. They will decide whether or not you meet the requirements.
