Summer School on the 1933 Bebelplatz Nazi Book Burning
Who decides what stories should be told, and who should be silenced? During our exhibition at the Honours Festival, we invite you to explore this question with us and [***]. Inspired by democratic backsliding and the historical event of the 1933 bookburnings in Berlin, we will connect the past and the present in order to examine how censorship and freedom of speech still shape our world. As a visitor, you yourself will be challenged to reflect on [***] with interactive activities, a short film, [***] and informational posters. Join us in the conversation. What books do you think would burn today, and would you be capable of doing so?
Note: in our exhibition we talk a lot about censorship and we will do some ‘meta’ censoring at the exhibition as well. the [***] work in the same way, and are intentional and a subtle foreshadowing of our exhibition.
