Financial support

  • What financial support options are there for students who experience study delay due to force majeure?

During your studies you may experience study delay due to special circumstances such as illness, family circumstances, a functional impairment or pregnancy. In such a situation, the Graduation Fund can offer a solution. In addition, in some cases and under certain conditions it is possible to qualify for an extra year of Student finance at DUO.

In order to be eligible for this type of financial support, it is of the utmost importance that you report your study delay due to circumstances to a study advisor as soon as possible. In addition, it is also necessary to make an appointment with a student counsellor when the study delay increases to 15 ECTS.

More information can be found on the Graduation Fund page of the Student Service Centre on the Student Portal (log in with p- or s-number).
  • What can I do if I incur unforeseen costs?

If you find yourself in financial distress during your studies due to costs that you cannot afford despite the correct insurance and precautions, it is possible to apply to the Emergency Fund of the University of Groningen. In some cases, the Emergency Fund offers financial support in the form of a gift, a loan or a combination of both.

More information can be found on the Emergency Fund page of the Student Service Centre on the Student Portal (log in with p- or s-number).
