Transmission

The quantity transmission (T) describes the fraction of the impinging radiation that passes a layer of matter. In the case of electromagnetic radiation, the transmission is described by the buildup factor (B) and an exponential function, both of which depend on attenuation coefficient (μ) and thickness of the absorbing layer (d):

T(μ,d) = B(μ,d) e-μd
