Justification

The Decree on Basic Safety Standards Radiation Protection explicitly states that each application using ionizing radiation emitting devices and radioactive materials must be justified. This means that the applications may only be used if the benefits for the exposed person or the society outweigh the damage caused by radiation.

The three pilars on which radiation protection is based, are:

  1. justification
  2. optimization
  3. limitation
